Hello Spitfire and GT6 fans. I started a new file entitled 'New ideas for blogs'. You know how a fleeting thought comes to mind, then suddenly it's gone if you don't write it down? I've learned that I remember much better through visual ques than just writing something down.
My new file is full of photos, not notes. As soon as I select a photo from the blog idea file, I know where the inspiration started and the wording of a new blog flows freely. And shooting from the hip produces a more fluid blog than some stiff, pre-written note. For me. Same with public speaking.
Ideas for everything in my life have come from visual ques. Photographs, drawings, memories or visual dreams. Even remembering an image the teacher drew. On a chalk board. I can't say with any certainty that I recall a single lecture. They weren't visually oriented unless it inspired an image in my head.
All that said... I love trying to inspire images in the reader's mind in hopes that they / you will remember it better.
We all love discussing Spitfires and GT6s. We all love the experience of not only driving them, but seeing them, tinkering with them, and even making necessary repairs.
As much as Spitfires need tinkering and repairs, that's all part of the charm. And likely why we've bought so many... for the project!! So picture this: (see what I did there?). You are on vacation out of town and you see a Spitfire. What do you do? You brake, of course, and look at it. Personally, I stop and turn around to go get a closer look.
As a Spitfire owner I would much rather own a Spitfire than a Corvette, Porsche, Viper, Prowler or Ferrari. I've learned how to make repairs from bumper to bumper on Spitfires and know their rarity. You know you're behind the wheel of a cool car when Corvette owners slow down to see your Spitfire and to wave at you!
Don't tell any of the MG owners this, but Every Spitfire since '62 (so… every last one) has sweeter lines and curves than most models of MGs. I feel qualified to state that, having owned a number of them.
Even though I never owned a Magnette, TD, TF, or other earlier vintage model, my ‘73 MGB GT and '75 Midget 1500 were great cars. But, the style just isn't there in comparison. Then add to that the simplicity of working on Spitfires and it makes the point very clear. From my humble POV.
After a grocery-getting drive the other day I was getting in my Spitfire and I heard a young girl in the parking lot exclaim, "Daddy, I see a race car"! How many children do you know who would get excited enough about seeing a Camaro, Mustang or Corvette to shout with joy? Some of my greatest memories in over 40 years of driving Spitfires have involved time behind the wheel AND under the bonnet. I’ll tinker just for the therapy.
If you have a Spitfire project or have completed it and are driving her, please always feel free to send us your photos at spitfireupgrades@yahoo.com
We reserve a corkboard in the break room for your Spitfire and GT6 photos. Don’t forget to get a close-up of your dashboard, engine, bay, new tires, or anything you want to share.
